Bridge Housing Emergency Shelter

The goal of Dawning Family Services is to help as many families as possible to avoid needing shelter altogether. Sometimes, however, households have nowhere else to go and shelter is unavoidable.

In 2020, we provided shelter to 129 adults and 192 children.

For those who enter shelter, we provide a safe, welcoming environment that promotes and supports the hard work of obtaining permanent, stable housing.

Of the clients who provided exit information in 2020, 77% exited to stable housing.

Shelter is important for the safety of households experiencing homelessness, and we believe that case management is essential for breaking the cycle of homelessness and obtaining permanent, stable housing.

Our bridge housing is short-term and offers a path for families to actively engage in ending their homelessness through the obtainment of permanent housing. We use a Housing First approach guided by the belief that housing is the foundation for life improvement and that this most basic necessity needs to be met before they can attend to other concerns. This approach does not have barriers to entry or mandatory participation requirements. Once the family is permanently housed, they are engaged in supportive services to assist them with problems affecting family well-being and to ensure that housing is retained.
